Facial Rover prototype testing at Dubai Future Foundation’s Human of the Future Festival

We have been working in collaboration with creative technology partner Blast Theory to develop an innovative installation that combines soft and hard robotics, creating a thought-provoking interactive experience. Designed to fascinate audiences, stimulate conversation, and generate world-leading research, Facial Rover aims to explore the evolving relationship between humans, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
Facial Rover places visitors in an environment that blends the atmosphere of a luxury spa with that of a high-end photography studio. Reclining on a lounger equipped with computer-controlled cushions, participants are invited to use a soft, skin-like controller to navigate a camera mounted on a robotic arm. As they explore close-up views of their own facial features, an AI-driven system simultaneously develops its own interpretations, creating a unique encounter between human perception and machine vision.

We are delighted to be travelling with our colleagues from Blast Theory to conduct testing of the prototype at the Dubai Future Foundation’s Future Week as part of the Human of the Future Festival, taking place at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai, from 18-21 November.
Following prototype testing in Dubai, Facial Rover will undergo further development informed by feedback gathered from a diverse international audience. These insights will help shape the next stage of the project, supporting the refinement of the experience and the technology behind the installation – with the aim of unveiling the fully developed version next year.
Stay tuned for further updates as the project evolves and moves towards its official launch.
