Exploring New Creative Connections: Experimental Theatre and AI Artist Yuyang Cheng Visits Nottingham

We are delighted to welcome Yuyang Cheng, an experimental theatre director, architect, and AI/new media artist, to Nottingham this November for a visit that will explore potential creative connections between her artistic practice and the Fellowship’s research.
Founder of Spectator Concept Theatre, Yuyang’s work brings together performance, embodied movement, immersive environments, AI/new media, sensing technologies, and interactive systems.
One project of particular interest to the Somabotics team is The Floating Life, which has explored the use of robotics, biosensing technologies, and interactive sound within artistic and performative contexts. These themes resonate strongly with our projects exploring how robotic technologies can engage with and respond to the human body in meaningful and responsible ways.
By bringing together perspectives from both the arts and technology, we hope to explore new ways of thinking about human-robot relationships and the role creative practice can play in shaping future research directions.
Already invited to visit several institutions across London during her time in the UK, Yuyang’s visit to Nottingham represents an exciting chance to introduce her to our programme and offers the opportunity to begin a conversation around shared interests.
