Somabotics Research Showcased at Imperial College London Doctoral Consortium

Somabotics PhD candidate Helen Payne attended the Doctoral Consortium for Textile Intersections at Imperial College London’s Dyson School of Design Engineering on 16 September, held at the university’s South Kensington campus
Bringing together researchers from a range of disciplines, the event provided a valuable forum for participants to present their work, exchange ideas, and receive feedback on their ongoing research.
As part of the event, Helen demonstrated the latest iteration of Feng Zhou’s Soma Skins Toolkit which enables pre-programmed tactile touch sequences that AI interprets and responds through actuation.
The demonstration showcased the Fellowship’s ongoing research exploring textiles, embodied interaction, artificial intelligence, and soft robotics, highlighting the potential for touch-based communication and responsive wearable technologies in future human-machine interactions.
